Launch Date for Epping Community Power

October 1st Begins Delivery of Cheaper Electricity

(Epping, NH) – Epping Community Power (EPC) proudly announces October 1, 2024 as the launch date for the provision of cheaper electricity to town residents. This date marks a new era in the delivery of electricity to default service customers, as EPC becomes the town’s default supplier of electricity, displacing Eversource and the NH Electric Co-op (NHEC). EPC is a member of the Community Power Coalition of NH (CPCNH).

On June 10, Energy Aggregation Committee Chair Michael Vose and CPCNH CEO Brian Callnan will seek final approval from the town Board of Selectmen of policies for cost sharing and data security and privacy. Near the end of June, Eversource and CPCNH will announce new rates that take effect on August 1. Provided that the CPCNH rate falls below the default utility rates, EPC will launch.

During the week of August 25, all eligible Epping electricity customers will receive notices in the mail announcing the launch of Epping Community Power. (To be eligible, a customer must currently receive their electricity from Eversource or NHEC.) The mailer will explain the automatic enrollment of customers and how to un-enroll, if desired. The flyer also describes all aspects of EPC operation including billing and restoration of service after an outage, which continues to be the obligation of the default utilities.

Beginning on October 1 and continuing each day of the month, eligible residential and business accounts will be transferred to EPC on the date of their monthly meter reading. All accounts will be moved by October 31.

Once moved, customers get their electricity supply from EPC, which will be reflected on the monthly bill starting in November. The default utility continues to provide billing, customer service, and delivery.
